Global Credit is a Middle Office within RBC Capital Markets.  Summer Interns are recruited into the various groups within the division including Credit Transaction Management, Ratings & Monitoring, and Institutional Client Credit Management. Global Credit provides transactional, risk assessment, and credit monitoring support for RBC Capital Markets loan and trading exposures. Global Credit key business partners are the Corporate and Investment Bank, Global Markets, and other teams across RBC CM.

Position description

What will you do?

You will join a specific Global Credit team to work with throughout the summer.  The roles and responsibilities will vary depending on the team you are assigned to but could include:

  • Upkeep and maintain credit, transactional, and trading limits on the Client and Credit Management System (CCMS)
  • Monitor receipt of Reporting Requirements outlined in credit agreements underpinning a portfolio of Global Credit names
  • Investigate overdue items and notify Group Risk Management (GRM) and account management teams as required
  • Monitor trading limits, client exposures and Fund client performance. Review limit excesses and resolve
  • Responsible for data integrity on assigned accounts, ensure CCMS reflects all relevant ongoing changes
  • Perform credit analysis on individual borrowers to establish Borrower risk ratings; includes preparing Risk Assessment Framework (RAFs), which encompasses industry, business, and financial risks
  • Develop and maintain financial models for leveraged borrower names (including DCF and Market based approaches)
  • Assist in daily monitoring of a Borrower’s business and financial performance through monitoring of financial and industry information (conference calls, news releases, financial results, etc.), regulatory changes, third party analysis, including rating agency publications, and other early warning signals
  • Support industry teams with preparing deteriorating credits for enhanced review, as required
  • Assist with preparation of documentation packages to be sent to counterparties to reflect new Regulatory and US Tax requirements (1. Follow up with counterparties by phone and e-mail and refer technical questions as appropriate, 2. Track receipt of completed documentation and 3. Produce ongoing progress reporting against metric)
  • Other projects & assignments as required, including portfolio reviews that require analytical, research, strategic and problem solving skills.

Required skills / Experience

What do you need to succeed?

Must-have:

  • Working towards a Bachelor or Masters degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, CFA, or other related field
  • Strong personal skills and the ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Good analytical, communication and problem solving skills
  • Highly organized with good attention to detail and very high level of accuracy
  • Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks under pressure and meet time-sensitive deadlines
  • Ability to think critically and “outside the box”

Nice-to-have

  • Knowledge and an understanding of financial statement analysis
  • Proficient in the full suite of Microsoft Products, including Excel (including using Excel as a tool for financial analysis) Word, PowerPoint, Access
  • Previous experience using online research tools such as Bloomberg, KMV, or using S&P/Moody’s/Fitch ratings
  • Previous experience working with a Financial Institution
