Position description

The Secondaries group sits within CPP Investments’ Private Equity department and invests directly in the private equity market through both LP and GP-led secondaries by leveraging CPP Investments’ strategic advantages of scale, information access, best in class GP relationships, and an established track record and strong market reputation.

As an Analyst, you will be responsible for conducting fundamental investment research, assisting in building financial models and recommendations, implementing investments strategies, and monitoring and managing portfolio investments.

Accountabilities:

  • Compile industry, market and asset level data and financial information to support research
  • Actively participate in the due diligence process, including developing company financial models, leading due diligence meetings, contributing discrete pieces of analysis and insight to support investment decisions
  • Prepare analytical investment reviews and recommendations in collaboration with the team, including written investment rationales and due diligence reviews
  • Actively participate in investment meetings by presenting transactions and taking part in the Q&A discussions of transactions brought forward by other deal teams
  • Monitor ongoing financial and risk performance of portfolio assets
  • Update financial models and other analytical tools to support the idea generation process and rationale behind changes in investment view
  • Balance multiple deal teams at a given time in a supporting role
Required skills / Experience
  • Undergraduate degree in relevant field
  • An advanced degree or certification (CFA) is an asset
  • Up to 3 years of relevant work experience (e.g. investment banking, consulting, private equity, business development, etc.)
  • Strong research, analytical, financial modeling, valuation, problem-solving skills and ability to think creatively
  • Advanced computer/technical skills – MS Excel, MS PowerPoint
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills
  • Work effectively in a team environment
  • Desire to live in Toronto and willingness to travel
