Position description

We are looking for an experienced Analyst or Associate to join the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources (I&RR) investing team in Victoria, BC. If you are a highly motivated, team player with excellent communication skills and an interest in investing in infrastructure – this is the opportunity for you!

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

BCI’s I&RR team invests globally in infrastructure, forestry, and agriculture businesses that provide stable long-term results. The team is one of the top ten largest institutional infrastructure investors globally, managing C$28+ billion in AUM through its offices in Victoria, BC and London, UK.

I&RR seeks meaningful investments predominantly in private companies enabling an active governance approach. The team invests in a variety of capacities in the private markets including as a sole sponsor, co-investor, and very selectively through externally managed funds. In addition, I&RR takes positions in listed infrastructure businesses as a complementary strategy to private markets investments.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Analyst/Associate (Infrastructure) is a member of the group’s investment team and assists in conducting due diligence and analysis of potential infrastructure investment opportunities and monitoring existing portfolio investments. A primary focus area of this position is to support I&RR’s investment activities in the renewable power sector.  The Analyst/Associate has a deep understanding of private markets investing and corporate finance principles, has strong financial modelling capabilities and a passion for investing in renewable power and energy transition. The ideal candidate is curious, driven and brings a long-term value investing mindset with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

WHAT YOU GET TO DO

Investment Origination, Execution and Due Diligence

  • Work as an integrated part of deal teams, supporting the diligence of financial, commercial, technical, legal, tax, governance, human resource, and ESG aspects of prospective direct and fund investments
  • Conduct valuation and financial modelling workstreams including scenario and sensitivity analyses
  • Support the preparation and presentation of investment committee materials to introduce and approve prospective investments
  • Manage due diligence advisors (selection, scoping, coordination)
  • Screen, review, and document potential investment opportunities
  • Support investment origination activities through sourcing plans/strategy discussions, partner and advisor engagement, and select industry/company research
Asset Management
  • Assist in the monitoring of existing investments and the review of board and committee materials
  • Support select portfolio company projects such as mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and capital raising
  • Conduct the bi-annual valuation of existing direct and fund investments
  • Support additional portfolio company analysis and reporting as required
SALARY RANGE

BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.

The annualized base salary range for the Analyst role is C$94,000 to C$115,000 and Associate role is C$109,000 to C$135,000. The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.

We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.

Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.

Required skills / Experience

Must have:

  • 2-5 years of experience, ideally in investment management (preference for institutional investment experience), private equity, investment banking, management consulting, corporate M&A, or other suitable background
  • Undergraduate and/or master’s degree with emphasis on finance and investment analysis
  • Strong understanding of private markets investing and corporate finance principles
  • Strong financial modelling and analysis skills
  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and effective presentation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and functionality as a team player

Preferred:

  • Completion of or be working towards completion of a relevant professional designation (e.g., CFA, CBV, LLB, or recognized accounting designation)
  • Experience in or knowledge of infrastructure, renewable power, and/or energy transition investments
