Position description

We are looking for an experienced Analyst or Associate to join the Infrastructure & Renewable Resources (I&RR) investing team in Victoria, BC. If you are a highly motivated, team player with excellent communication skills and an interest in investing in infrastructure, forestry, and agriculture – this is the opportunity for you!

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

BCI’s I&RR team invests globally in infrastructure, forestry, and agriculture businesses that provide stable long-term results. The team is one of the top ten largest institutional infrastructure investors globally, managing C$25+ billion in AUM through its offices in Victoria, BC and London, UK.
The I&RR team predominantly seeks direct investments in private companies – but also pursues complementary strategies including investments in publicly listed companies and debt instruments. The team invests in a variety of capacities including as a sole sponsor, co-investor, and selectively through funds. In these capacities, the team seeks to take an active governance approach built on a foundation of trusted relationships with all stakeholders and a commitment to long-term value creation.

THE OPPORTUNITY

The Analyst/Associate will be a key member of the investment team in the Victoria office, contributing to the growth, preservation, and value realization of investments within I&RR’s portfolio. This involves taking an active role in analyzing potential investment opportunities, working with existing portfolio companies to craft strategy and implement value-enhancing initiatives, and collaborating within the team to identify and execute on strategic initiatives across the portfolio.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO

Investment Due Diligence and Execution

  • Work within an integrated deal team to conduct due diligence and evaluate investment opportunities
  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to lead technical, commercial, ESG, valuation, and other pertinent workstreams
  • Synthesize findings and investment recommendations in executive-level investment presentations
Proactive Portfolio Company Engagement
  • Evaluate and contribute to the development of business strategies, investment recommendations, and budgets, as well as addressing other issues confronting Board and management teams
  • Support the preparation and tracking of portfolio company KPIs and valuations to facilitate pro-active asset management and ensure sustained long-term returns
  • Evaluate strategic initiatives (e.g., bolt-on acquisitions; divestitures; expansion projects) and support their pursuit directly with management and through external advisors
Collaborating on Strategic Initiatives Across the Portfolio
  • Conduct industry/geography/company/fund research and strategic reviews to support new deal origination activities and portfolio initiatives
  • Contribute to building an internal body of knowledge for recurring challenges/opportunities and evolving trends
SALARY RANGE
BCI offers a competitive total rewards package which includes a performance-based incentive plan, comprehensive health & dental benefits, a defined benefit pension plan and paid time off.
The annualized base salary range for the Analyst role is C$94,000 to C$115,000 and Associate role is C$109,000 to C$135,000. The base salary offered to the successful candidate will consider a wide array of factors including but not limited to the individual’s skill set, level of experience applicable to the role they are being offered and consideration to internal equity.
We pay our people competitively in the markets in which we compete for talent and with consideration to internal equity and job structure. We aim for actual pay to be around the median of the market for target or expected levels of performance, and around the upper quartile of the market for excellent performance.
Actual salaries may vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors, including, but not limited to, experience and expertise.

Required skills / Experience

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Undergraduate and/or advanced graduate university degree or equivalent (e.g., MBA, CFA, CPA)
  • Up to 5 years of experience within private equity, investment banking, management consulting, corporate M&A, investment management, or other suitable background
  • A team player that thrives in a dynamic, team-oriented environment
  • Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written)
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills and ability to perform in-depth analysis
  • Demonstrates natural curiosity, an inquisitive mindset, and an eagerness to learn
  • Understanding of private market investing and strong financial modeling skills
  • Have an entrepreneurial spirit and strive to create positive impact (i.e., see a need, take on responsibility, and follow through)
  • Strong organizational and planning skills to effectively balance multiple priorities and initiatives
  • Exhibits a high level of integrity, professionalism, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience in or knowledge of infrastructure, forestry, or agriculture investments (not required)
