Job Overview

Burkett Asset Management is seeking a Research Analyst to join its growing investment team. The Research Analyst will be responsible for conducting in-depth financial analysis, evaluating market trends, and providing valuable insights to support investment decision-making. The ideal candidate will have a strong analytical mindset, excellent research skills, and a passion for staying abreast of market developments.

The Research Analyst is a generalist in nature with the flexibility to research and learn about equity and fixed income securities across sectors and geographies in employing our well-defined investment process. Research work will primarily be focused on analyzing specific securities though there will be exposure to portfolio construction and risk management for the broader portfolio. We work in a team-based environment so the successful candidate will be exposed to all aspects of the investment management process. This is a role designed for individuals who are detail-oriented, analytically sharp, and committed to delivering exceptional service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform in-depth research on equity and fixed income securities
  • Actively monitor existing portfolio positions and make relative value recommendations based on a combination of bottom-up and top-down fundamental research
  • Participate in meetings with corporate issuers and industry analysts
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of materials for securities, sectors, or topical reviews
  • Prepare periodic investment analytics on the portfolio and clients
  • Assist with the integration of new technologies to streamline the investment management process
  • Support trading and execution in the portfolios
  • Support maintaining system integrity

Job Type & Location

  • Full-time (Monday to Friday), on-site.
  • Victoria, BC: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required).

Required skills / Experience

Job Requirements

A career in Investment Management is challenging and fast-paced. A high regard for accuracy and attention to detail are essential. Preference will be given to applicants who meet the following requirements:

  • Previous co-op or internships in equity research, credit analysis, investment management or financial analysis considered an asset
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret financial data and build financial models
  • Knowledge of investment strategies, financial markets, and economic trends; experience with Bloomberg is strongly preferred
  • Strong multi-tasking ability with excellent attention to detail
