THE OPPORTUNITY

Join BCI’s Financial Reporting & Valuations team as a Senior Analyst or Associate in Victoria, British Columbia, supporting the continued evolution of financial reporting at a time of increasing complexity and scale. This is a newly created role driven by the team’s expanding scope including the integration of certain ESG reporting into BCI’s financial reporting processes. You’ll work across complex investment structures, contribute to system enhancements and modern reporting approaches, and help maintain strong audit and governance standards.

The role suits someone who pairs deep IFRS technical knowledge and accounting precision with a drive to reshape reporting through data, automation, and AI. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally and have real influence over how BCI builds more efficient, forward-looking reporting practices. Public practice experience is considered an asset.

This position will be filled at the Senior Analyst or Associate level based on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications.

WHO YOU WILL WORK WITH

The Finance department is part of BCI Operations and supports investment and corporate accounting, valuations, financial statements, and financial reporting to our clients. The team also leads budgeting, tax, procurement, finance operations, and investment performance and analytics.

Financial Reporting & Valuations is made up of two teams, Financial Reporting and Valuations who combined are responsible for the daily price verification for Fixed Income and Public Equity securities as well as the quarterly and year-end valuation processes for BCI’s private market investment portfolio, including Private Equity, Infrastructure & Renewable Resources, and Private Credit. The branch also resolves IFRS accounting and valuation issues across all asset classes, prepares annual financial statements for BCI programs, pooled funds, and Combined Funds, and reports and presents financial and valuation information to BCI’s Valuation Committee and Board and Board-related committees.

WHAT YOU WILL DO 

This role will be filled at the Senior Analyst or Associate level, depending on the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Financial Reporting, you will play an important role in delivering timely, complete, and accurate internal and external financial reporting.

At the Senior Analyst level, you will focus on hands‑on preparation of reporting deliverables while working closely with team members and supporting the development of junior staff. You will contribute to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities to enhance processes, procedures, and reporting efficiency.

At the Associate level, you will operate with broader scope and accountability, acting as a subject matter expert and supporting the Senior Manager in leading financial reporting deliverables. You will drive more complex process improvements, lead initiatives or projects, and represent the team in cross‑functional work.

At both levels, you will collaborate closely with Investment teams, Risk, Valuations, and Investment Accounting to deliver high‑quality outcomes.

  • Support the timely, complete, and accurate preparation and review of financial statements, BCI’s portfolio carbon footprint, and other internally and externally reported financial information
  • Assist with facilitating external audit engagements; respond to auditor queries and provide applicable supporting audit evidence
  • Prepare financial reporting analysis in accordance with IFRS to conclude on accounting issues for new investments and structures
  • Research new accounting standards impacting financial instruments and make recommendations on accounting policy changes
  • Communicate with investment teams, external auditors, and other departments to resolve financial reporting and related issues
  • Maintain comprehensive knowledge of clients, asset classes, and the end-to-end finance function, including investment objectives, reporting requirements, instruments, structures, and supporting technologies
  • Develop, maintain, and continuously improve financial solutions and processes aligned to client and asset class objectives
  • Transform financial information into value-added business intelligence and reports through comprehensive quantitative and qualitative analysis
  • Identify and address risks; ensure all reporting and processes meet the audit and internal control framework and adhere to compliance and risk management best practices
  • Provide training and assistance to team members as required
  • Assist with the assessment and documentation of procedures and processes to support effective internal controls over financial reporting
  • Contribute to the maintenance and optimization of BCI’s financial reporting software, Workiva, including management of associated work papers, table mappings, and queries
  • Act as financial reporting subject matter expert in working with Business Support Analysts to develop requirements and test solutions within the SimCorp Dimension testing and production environments
  • Provide AI-enabled recommendations; assist in the design, build, and testing of AI solutions

WHERE YOU WILL WORK 

This role will be based in our office in downtown Victoria, BC. Relocation support is available if needed. BCI is an in-person, collaborative organization with the flexibility to work remotely up to one day per week.

SALARY RANGE

The annualized base salary range for the Senior Analyst role is CAD $90,000 to $109,000. For the Associate role, the range is $103,000 to $124,000.

Required skills / Experience

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA) or equivalent
  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience (4+ years for the Associate level)
  • Experience in investment/securities accounting
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to plan workload to meet strict deadlines
  • Ability to proactively look for ways to increase efficiencies in how work is performed
  • Advanced level Excel skills and current experience with an industry standard accounting platform

Associate Level Additional Requirements

  • In-depth exposure to IFRS, specifically IFRS 9, Financial Instruments and IFRS 13, Fair Value Measurement
  • Experience mentoring or supporting the development of team members

Preferred

  • Audit experience within an IFRS reporting environment
  • Experience preparing or reviewing audited financial statements
  • Experience with Workiva or similar financial reporting tools
  • Broad understanding of analytical tools and programming languages, including but not limited to Excel VBA, PowerBI, and Python
  • Experience with designing, building, and testing AI solutions
