Position description

About the role
Join the Investment Strategy and Governance team in the Specialist, Investment Strategy and Treasury Governance position.  In this dynamic role, you will act as a subject matter expert on governance, supporting staff, management, Pension Fund Trustees, Investment Committees, and other governance bodies in fulfilling their oversight responsibilities over the investment and treasury activities.  Additionally, you will oversee and conduct sourcing activities for the division, applying a strategic lens and seeking opportunities for efficiencies.

What you’ll do:
  • Enhance and maintain the governance framework for effective oversight, decision-making and accountability.
  • Conduct governance reviews, identifying gaps, and recommending enhancements aligned with best practices and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop policies, processes, and governance documentation to ensure compliance and consistency with governance framework, best practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate material preparation and logistics for the Trustee and Investment Committee meetings.
  • Advise on governance and sourcing matters to ensure integrated and transparent decision-making as well as efficient, and effective processes.
  • Conducts research and liaises with external peers to understand best practices in relation to governance and seeks opportunities to enhance existing processes and policies.
  • Leads and oversees all sourcing activities for the division, ensuring the sourcing process is consistent with CMHC and/or Pension Fund policies, directives, and guidelines.
  • Advises management where there are opportunities for efficiencies on sourcing and acts as the challenge function with internal and external partners to ensure sourcing is done strategically and cost effectively.
Required skills / Experience
What you should have:
  • An undergraduate degree in business, finance or commerce.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience in governance, secretariat or in providing advice and support to a board or executive management.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills including the ability to synthesize data and record and summarize real-time discussions.
  • Demonstrated experience leading reviews and/or implementation activities.
  • Excellent listening skills and ability to focus and concentrate for extended periods of time.
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) in English.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills; ability to manage multiple tasks within established and tight deadlines, with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, and ability to interact professionally with internal and external parties at all levels, including Board members, Trustees, Investment Committee members and senior management.
It would be great if you also had:
  • Knowledge of investments, pension regulations and compliance requirements as they apply to investments.
  • Sound knowledge of sourcing and vendor management.
  • Good communication skills (oral and written) in French.
