In 2018, the Canadian Human Rights Commission’s horizontal audit exposed a challenging reality about Indigenous employment in Canada’s banking and financial sector. While 62.9% of employers reported incorporating employment equity goals in their succession planning, only 25.7% identified Indigenous men for key positions, and only 14.3% did the same for Indigenous women. These figures underscore the systemic barriers faced by talent from Indigenous communities, particularly women. However, recognizing the problem is the first step toward creating meaningful change.

VersaFi (formerly WCM) is pleased to announce the recipients of its 2024 Champions of Change Award. These 20 individuals will be honoured on Tuesday, June 25 at a gala event in Toronto, for their dedication to advancing equity within their firms and across the finance sector.

VersaFi (formerly WCM) released Intersectionality in Action: A Guide on Understanding & Practicing Intersectionality to provide professionals working in the finance sector with a comprehensive understanding of the multifaceted dimensions of human identity and experiences. The goal is to help foster a more inclusive and equitable community.

Tanya van Biesen, who in January was named president and CEO of what is now known as VersaFi, wants the rebranded organization to have a bigger voice as it promotes inclusion in the finance sector.
